Trademark Policy

Guidelines for using OpenPOWER Foundation trademarks and logos.

The OpenPOWER Foundation owns several trademarks, service marks, and logos (collectively "Marks") that identify our organization, programs, and certified products. This policy explains how these Marks may and may not be used.

Our Trademarks

The following are trademarks of the OpenPOWER Foundation:

  • OpenPOWER (word mark)
  • OpenPOWER Foundation (word mark)
  • OpenPOWER Foundation logo (design mark)
  • OpenPOWER compliance certification marks

Permitted Uses

You may use the OpenPOWER Marks without prior written permission in the following limited circumstances:

Nominative Use

You may use the OpenPOWER word marks to accurately refer to the OpenPOWER Foundation, its programs, or technologies — provided that:

  • The use is factually accurate and not misleading
  • The use does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation with the OpenPOWER Foundation
  • You include appropriate trademark attribution (e.g., "OpenPOWER is a trademark of the OpenPOWER Foundation")

Editorial and News Use

Journalists, bloggers, and media organizations may use the Marks when reporting on the OpenPOWER Foundation or related technology, consistent with standard editorial practice.

Community and Open Source Use

Open source projects and community initiatives that are aligned with OpenPOWER Foundation goals may use the word marks in descriptive contexts (e.g., "optimized for OpenPOWER" or "runs on OpenPOWER hardware").

Prohibited Uses

You may NOT use the OpenPOWER Marks to:

  • Imply that your products or services are endorsed, certified, or affiliated with the OpenPOWER Foundation without authorization
  • Use the OpenPOWER logo or compliance marks without a valid license or certification
  • Register domain names, social media handles, or business names that incorporate the Marks
  • Use the Marks in a way that disparages or damages the reputation of the OpenPOWER Foundation
  • Create modified or derivative versions of the logo marks

Logo Usage

Use of the OpenPOWER Foundation logo requires written permission from the OpenPOWER Foundation. Certified members may use logos in accordance with their membership agreement and our Logo Policy.

Compliance Mark

The OpenPOWER compliance certification marks may only be used by products that have successfully completed the OpenPOWER compliance certification process. See the Compliance Program for details.
